Ways to fix this movie:
– Have Dani be an actual character instead of a girl.
– Have Dani always be the target. Simply state that John Connor was killed in his fight with Skynet and Dani took up the fight in his stead. The Rev-9 could simply be an updated Terminator that would have inevitably been created in the years they fought against John Connor. However, T2 John Connor still lived.
– Have the ending of T2 still matter. The Terminator sent after Dani is following orders from a future that doesn't exist. Perhaps even create a plotline where the Terminator is trying to reboot Skynet and essentially put the timeline back to what it was in T1.

This is the stupidest god damn thing I think I've ever seen in science fiction. I knew the writing for these awful movies had gotten to a point of almost being satire, but I didn't know it got THIS bad. Answer this question for me, will ya? Who the HELL took "Carl's" CPU out of read only mode?
Don't know what I'm talking about? Well then, you didn't pay attention to T2 where there was an ENTIRE SCENE dedicated to Sarah and John removing the T-800's CPU as he explains all Terminator models CPUs are put into "Read Only mode" by default, purposely so they can never learn or adapt to be more than killing machines. The entire reason the T-800 was able to become somewhat understanding of John and Sarah's human behavior and form a bond with them was specifically because they had taken his CPU out of Read Only mode, only after John insisted and stopped Sarah from nearly smashing the thing to pieces with a hammer.
So who took Carl out of Read Only Mode? It certainly wasn't Sarah… it wasn't Alessia, his "wife" who somehow in 20 years doesn't know that he's a 400 pound robot with no working reproductive organs.. He certainly didn't do it himself because that in itself would require enough self awareness that his CPU wouldn't allow for, not to mention removing the CPU completely shuts him down.. Did Skynet, all powerful super intelligence that brings about the apocalypse in the future just… mess up and forget to put this one T-800 model's CPU in Read Only Mode?
So what? Did he get struck my lightning and half-fried his CPU? There is no context whatsoever put into the fact that this terminator actually finished his mission, then just wandered around and didn't know what to do for 20 years like a bumbling idiot.
Do you really think Skynet doesn't have programming parameters for what to do when an infiltrator unit finishes its mission? THE ENTIRE SAD ENDING OF T2 HAPPENED BECAUSE THEY'RE PROGRAMMED TO SELF TERMINATE AFTER THE SUCCESS OF THEIR MISSION! And sure, maybe you could argue that maybe it was future John that programmed that into him so there wouldn't be any traces left of Cyberdyne technology, not Skynet, but even if that were the case do you think Skynet would just… forget about what happens next?
Hell, even the "Sarah Connor Chronicles" which was a mediocre Sci-fi show made for TV made it so that after a terminator completes its primary mission it had a list of other secondary targets to go after, or just help ensure Skynet's rise to power in general.. and if that feels like too much, why the hell wouldn't it have information of where the safest place to be from all the nuclear blasts in the future are? Its a machine, not a human, it can just park itself in an abandoned building or the wilderness somewhere where its least likely to be disturbed and then just hibernate until the bombs fall, then continue its mission of just killing humans once the war starts.
But nah fam, Skynet just straight up forgets about anything that happens after they kill John, I guess. Not important. Its not AT ALL a risk that someone could disable and reprogram the unit to completely undermine all of Skynet's future laid plans or anything like that… or in this case, just FORGET TO PUT IT IN READ ONLY MODE AND LET A ROGUE INFILTRATOR UNIT DO WHATEVER THE HELL IT WANTS IN THE PAST AND JUST HOPE IT WON'T AFFECT THE FUTURE…

I think a nice touch for the ending would be T-800 giving Sarah a picture of John as a way saying sorry to Sarah. Seeing as how he now understood what he had taken I think it could've been a nice touch.
