Some hotels get pretty well everything right.
That’s the case with the Grande Sheraton Sukhumvit, a Luxury Collection hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.
(The proper name for the hotel is actually the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, but so many people refer to it as the Grande Sheraton Sukhumvit, so if we mix it up here, you’ll understand why.)
The Grande Sheraton Sukhumvit is ideally located for shopping in Bangkok
Grande Sheraton Sukhumvit rooms
How does this Sheraton get it right?
For one, the hotel’s 420 spacious rooms (which include 46 suites) have recently been renovated.
A premier room at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit
They’re tasteful and elegant – and the beds with lightweight white duvets make for a great sleep.
Deep turquoise tiles add a pop of color to the bathrooms.
The natural THANN bathroom toiletries are by a local Thai company (Thailand’s equivalent of America’s Body Shop and L’Occitane in France).
Bathrooms are spacious and inviting
High up on the 25th floor, we had smashing views of the city’s skyscrapers and luxury shopping malls.
Of course, there are all the mod cons – 40 inch flat screen TV, media hub for connecting your devices, high-speed WiFi, etc.
Best area to stay in Bangkok for shopping
The Grande Sheraton Sukhumvit is one of the top 5-star hotels in Bangkok
And then there’s the Sheraton’s splendid location.
The hotel is smack-dab in the major Sukhumvit shopping and business area.
Bangkok is known for its great shopping (you should get a suit or silk dress made while in the city).
And some of the best shopping in Bangkok is right here at your fingertips (well, almost).
Fine shopping malls – like Terminal 21, The Emporium, Gaysorn Plaza and Siam Paragon – are conveniently close.
Best hotel in Bangkok near BTS
The hotel has its own walkway connecting it with the BTS Asok station
A walkway connects the hotel with Bangkok’s modern BTS Skytrain line (the Asok BTS skytrain station).
We found it easy to take the skytrain from the hotel to see the city’s sights.
Spaaah at the Grande Sheraton Sukhumvit
The spa is one of the most luxurious in Bangkok.
A gorgeous grand wooden staircase winds up to the spa’s reception, where we sipped refreshing ginger tea while waiting for our massage treatment.
Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit restaurants
For dinner, we tried the elegant Rossini’s for home-made pasta and the hotel’s interesting (and charitable) Dine in the Dark Bangkok eatery, where blind servers guided us in a pitch black restaurant.
When you want Italian, Rossini’s hits the spot
We also gave the cutlery a workout at the hotel’s Thai restaurant, Basil’s.
And, no surprise, the food was excellent! You won’t find any MSG here; herbs and spices are used to make the fresh curry pastes, marinades and sauces.
For an appetizer, we drooled over the deep-fried soft shell crab with sesame seeds, served with tamarind sauce.
Basil’s is a gourmet Thai restaurant
Other dishes we enjoyed included red curry with roasted duck and green apple; Thai red snapper with red turmeric and Thai herbs (southern Thai style); and stir fried chicken with cashew nuts and dried chili.

Bangkok hotel with best pool
When you can shop no more, this swimming pool will be calling you!
It’s the lovely pool, however, that probably makes guests the happiest.
Zig-zag in shape, it’s surrounded by shady trees and blooming bougainvillea – pink blossoms float in the pool water.
Comfy teak sunbeds are scattered about and a sala (covered lounge with a Thai-style roof) has additional mats and cushions for lounging.
Order lunch or a snack at the restaurant by the pool
The only downside?
When the hotel is full, like when we stayed, the pool is a victim of its own success and there aren’t quite enough spots for guests to relax poolside.
Location and Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit map
The Sheraton is a member of the Luxury Collection of resorts.
And, pool space aside, if you’re looking for a luxury hotel in Bangkok near a BTS station (and shopping!), you can’t do much better than the Grande Sheraton Sukhumvit.
It’s certainly one of the best hotels in Bangkok near the BTS (and shopping, oh we already mentioned that…).

[NEW] SHERATON GRANDE SUKHUMVIT, A LUXURY COLLECTION HOTEL, BANGKOK HK$639 (H̶K̶$̶1̶,̶5̶1̶3̶) | sheraton grand sukhumvit – Sambeauty
During this pandemic year, I have stayed at the SGS in March (following a rigorous 15-night quarantine in Phuket upon landing from overseas), April, and now, November. The Sheraton Grande Dame, known in hospitality circles as Richard Chapman’s hotel, after the longtime General Manager who retired in July following a lifetime of service in the global hospitality industry,, the last 21 years of which were spent at the helm of the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, has always been a perennial favorite amongst visitors to the City of Angels, being famous for many things, including its Sunday Jazzy Brunches and photogenic tropical modernist Sala pool With the easing of Thailand entry requirements for fully vaccinated travelers, and the recent attainment of SHA+ status for the hotel, many
of the SGS’ loyal guests spanning the last two decades from around the world have been busy making return booking plans to stay at our favorite Bangkok hotel. The final weekend of October saw the Reservations department work around the clock to put out Test & Go as well as Bangkok Sandbox packages for the first wave of returning international guests arriving in the first week of November I have to thank not only the Reservations Department, but also the Rooms Division and the Front Office, in particular, Front Office Manager Bint Raksapakdee and Assistant Manager Divya Sirikumar for taking my calls around the clock as regulations and requirements from Royal Thai Embassies and Consulates around the world changed in the blink of an eye The moment of my arrival at the hotel could not have been more perfect. After 20 hours of travel, I was greeted in the lower lobby by the gentlemen of the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, including LP officer, Supakorn who very professionally took my temperature, Front Office Manager Bint Raksapakdee, Chief Concierge Veera Jindareung, and Director of Sales Purit Kaewsawang. Many thanks to Housekeeping who spared no effort in setting up my room for my initial one-night Test & Go reservation according to my preferences which they have recorded over the last decade Many thanks also go to Senior Venue Manager, Chanida Anankusri, who contacted Senior Sous Chef Pairit (Chef Bank) on my behalf to request my favorite Thai dish, one I only order when in-house at the SGS and nowhere else. Thanks also go to the Guest Service operators (many of whom hail from other departments) Janpen and Sutirak Somkanae who followed up on my inquiries and called me back with responses. Thanks also to the ladies of the Butler Team, Nisachol (Gig) and Ornuma (Anne) who remember how to make my strong iced green tea exactly the way I like it. Thanks also to the very busy and hardworking front desk team whom I got to meet this time including Assistant Chief Concierge Kuntida (Orh), Assistant Managers Kwang and Neng, Sagulroj (Art), and Takumi Following the negative result of the RT-PCR Covid Swab test conducted en route to the hotel from the airport, I was allowed to leave my room and have breakfast at 6:30 am the following day at Orchid Cafe where Chef Jeap, whom I have known for 11 years, going back to the time he was a commis working the egg station, made me a delicious Khai Kratha, and Restaurant Manager Chanida Anankusri along with her team, including hostess Jin, servers Yai and Bao, made sure I enjoyed my customary Orchid breakfast experience complete with the food, drinks, and service to which I am accustomed to. There really is no other hotel which takes pains to cater to the preferences of loyal, returning guests, ensuring as seamless an experience as possible, especially during these challenging times Over the course of the first 24 hours since landing back in Thailand following my last check out from the SGS seven months ago, I have witnessed a flurry of activity as the hotel experienced a long-awaited upsurge in business after almost two years of the pandemic which has upended lives and decimated livelihoods. It is awesome to see that the tradition of excellence in hospitality is alive and well at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit. As the world learns to live with a pandemic that has turned endemic, and as borders increasingly open up again, I hope to return to time and again experience the excellent hospitality of the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit
